Long-term mortgage interest rates were down Tuesday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield dipped to 4.77 percent. The 30-year fixed-rate average slipped to 5.9 percent, and the 15-year fixed rate dropped to 5.6 percent. The 1-year adjustable stayed at 5.33 percent. The 30-year Treasury bond yield decreased to 4.9 percent. Rates are current as of 7:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Mortgage rate figures are according to Bankrate.com, which publishes nightly averages based on its survey of 4,000 banks in 50 states. Points on these mortgages range from zero to 3.5. In other economic news, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 30.58 points, or 0.26 percent, finishing at 11,950.02. The Nasdaq was down 18.89 points, or 0.8 percent, closing at 2,344.95.
