• HGTV's Ultimate House Hunt kicks off June 1, and it runs through July 8.
  • Viewers can go to HGTV.com to vote for their favorite homes in eight categories.
  • The winner gets bragging rights and a little more air time on HGTV.com.

Today kicks off HGTV’s annual month-long contest (held on HGTV.com), Ultimate House Hunt, where luxury, real estate porn and HGTV converge for 900,000 viewers to weigh in — or at least that’s how many votes were cast in last year’s contest. The 2015 contest attracted 82 million page views along with those 900,000 votes, which makes the contest a window of insight into the public’s changing taste.

13312818_10156771491515467_3154660895376709292_nAll featured homes are represented by members of HGTV’s exclusive partners Leading Real Estate Companies of the World and Luxury Portfolio International. Consumers vote for their favorites online, and a winner is chosen at the end.

Along with bragging rights, the winning homes will also receive additional editorial exposure on HGTV.com.

HGTV has partnered with Leading RE and Luxury Portfolio for the 2016 house hunt — as it has since 2014.

“The Ultimate House Hunt is one of our favorite events each year,” Rich Lacy, vice president of digital for HGTV.com, said in a press release. “We can always rely on Leading Real Estate Companies of the World and Luxury Portfolio International to deliver the most stunning homes for our engaged audience to choose from.”

The contest runs from June 1 through July 8, and it showcases spectacular homes around the world in eight categories:

  1. Waterfront homes
  2. Master retreats
  3. International homes
  4. Bringing the outside in
  5. Kids’ spaces
  6. Living large in small spaces
  7. Classic living
  8. Making an entrance

“Each year we look forward to holding this contest with HGTV and selecting the most appealing properties from our members to share. From beautiful waterfront homes to properties with the most stunning master retreats to the most appealing international properties, the contest showcases the best properties listed for sale,” Paul Boomsma, president of Luxury Portfolio International, said in a press release.

The overall winning property for 2016 was a rustic lake house in Tiger, Georgia, that was represented by Harry Norman Realtors. Dream Hawaiian homes also made out well with three homes from Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers being voted as favorites.
