• When you have simplicity in your business, you don't have to waste time endlessly tweaking systems.
  • A simple -- but profitable -- real estate business is unsexy, unglamorous and unromantic.
  • A consistent end time is another form of a deadline that will help you get more things done.

As we wrap up our series on taking the complexity out of real estate by focusing on your routine, we’ll finish up on the afternoon schedule. After a productive morning of exercise, meditation, lead generation and lunching with past clients or centers of influence (there’s no glory in skipping lunch), it’s on to the afternoon schedule.

Afternoon

The afternoon routine is all about having some minimum standards that will give you maximum income. Those deals that have been blowing up your voicemail while you were setting appointments — now have one full hour of your attention.

Use this hour to huddle with your transaction coordinator or team, and execute a plan to take care of business. If you’ve been faithful to your morning lead generation, you should be ready to go on some buyer or seller appointments. If you’re new to the business or didn’t set any new appointments today, you have some options.

You can prepare for future appointments, work on CMAs or crank out some BPOs. It might even be negotiation time for those contracts that came in or maybe you have an inspection that needs to be buttoned up.

Don’t be the agent who leaves his or her desk with a list of things you should have called and discussed. Be the agent who gets things done!

Now if all these things are done, you should already feel victorious for following through on things that most agents won’t do. Is there still time before the day is over, and you’re not sure what to do now?

When in doubt, go back to lead follow-up and lead generation. Finally, have a consistent end time for each day.

Giving yourself a daily deadline of when to stop will force you to make the most of the time you have.

If you’re finding your life feels out of control — not just in business, but in general — listen to the podcast, and find out how to hack away at the non-essentials, so you can maximize your productivity and help people at the highest level.
