Part-time Reporter/Editorial Assistant at Inman News

We're seeking a part-time Reporter/Editorial Assistant to join our award-winning team of reporters and editors.

The Reporter/Editorial Assistant is a paid, temporary position with a duration of at least six months. The Reporter/Editorial Assistant must work a minimum 20 hours per week in the Alameda, Calif., headquarters of Inman News. This position will begin in November. Pay is $17.00/hour.

Duties will include:

  • Research, reporting and writing a range of news items, including news briefs, full-length articles and special reports.
  • Preparation of photos, charts, videos and other multimedia components for inclusion in online articles and reports.
  • Formatting of news content into PDF reports and online reports.
  • Identify and report on new technologies and trends relevant to real estate.
  • Work with Inman News content partners to supply news content based on those partners' needs.
  • Scan multiple online sources for story ideas.
  • Travel for some assignments.

Experience should include:

  • Formal training in journalism.
  • Previous work in a newsroom environment.
  • Familiarity with Associated Press style rules.
  • Solid journalistic ethics.
  • Familiarity with the real estate industry and terminology.
  • Familiarity with HTML.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Meeting and beating daily deadlines.
  • Typing above 60 words per minute.
  • Social media expertise.
  • Digital photography and video skills.
