Rental market poised for recovery

With consumer demand for apartments on the upswing, multifamily developers across the country are optimistic that the rental market is finally in the midst of a recovery, according to the results of the latest Multifamily Market Index released today by the National Association of Home Builders.

"The results of the MMI for the second quarter are very encouraging," said NAHB President Bobby Rayburn, a home and apartment builder from Jackson, Miss. "After three years of rising vacancy rates, we're seeing a turnaround in the apartment market."  more...

Software co. dumps Texas property

Representing the seller, Binswanger recently negotiated the sale of a 102,257-square-foot building with acreage in Grand Prairie, Texas.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

The property is located at 1010 Ave. J East.

RSR Group, a shooting sports distributor, purchased the property for expansion purposes.

The seller, The Reynolds and Reynolds Co., is a provider of software and services designed for the automotive industry. It sold this site due to consolidation.  more...

Luxury apartments sold in San Diego

Hendricks & Partners brokered the sale of Laurel Bay, a 150-unit luxury apartment community in San Diego, Calif.

The value of the transaction was $56.6 million.

Simpson Laurel Bay LP sold the property, located at 2400 5th Ave., to Hammer Ventures.

Hendricks & Partners is a national advisory firm focused exclusively on the sale of multifamily properties.

Businesses in rural areas have a higher adoption rate of basic commercial Internet technologies, such as e-mail, Web browsing and passive document sharing, than small and mid-sized metropolitan areas, according to an economic report prepared for the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

Consumers turn cautious again

Consumer confidence, which had been on the rise since April, fell sharply in August, private research group The Conference Board reported today.

The Conference Board's consumer confidence index now stands at 98.2 (1985=100), down from 105.7 in July. The survey is based on a sample of 5,000 U.S. households.

Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board's Consumer Research Center, attributed the decline in confidence to the slowdown in job growth.

"Until the job market and pace of hiring picks up, this cautious attitude will prevail," Franco said.  more...

The Federal Trade Commission is seeking the first civil penalties for violations of the National Do Not Call Registry.

Las Vegas-based telemarketing group, Braglia Marketing Group LLC, has made more than 300,000 calls to consumers who registered their phone numbers on the Do Not Call Registry, according to the FTC.
