A nine-year drop in California foreclosure activity appeared to level off during the second quarter, the result of a maturing real estate cycle and cooler appreciation rates, a real estate information service reported today. Lending institutions sent default notices to 12,408 California homeowners during the April-to-June period, down 14.4 percent from 14,501 for the first three months of the year, and down 0.9 percent from 12,520 for last year's second quarter, according to DataQuick Information Systems. more...

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson this week announced $10 million in funding that aims to get chronically homeless persons who are addicted to alcohol off the streets and into a permanent residence. A dozen pilot programs in 11 cities around the country are receiving two-year grants through HUD's new "Housing for People Who Are Homeless and Addicted To Alcohol" program. First American Residential Group has formed a partnership with the Houston Association of Realtors and has acquired HAR'sDatabase Integrity system, software that increases listing accuracy for MLSs and their members. The Database Integrity system is a software program that monitors the accuracy of real estate information and enforces compliance with MLS rules and regulations, First American said Thursday. Developed by HAR, the system is currently implemented throughout the association's user base and will now be offered to the MLS industry by First American. more...

The Wisconsin Realtors Association has announced the formation of a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization to represent homeowners and property owners in the state. The mission of this Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance Inc. is "to advance and promote issues of concern to all Wisconsin property owners," according to the trade group's announcement. By Inman News, Thursday, August 11, 2005. Long-term mortgage interest rates dropped again Thursday, and the benchmark 10-year Treasury bond yield dropped to 4.32 percent. The 30-year fixed-rate average fell to 5.45 percent, and the 15-year fixed-rate dipped to 5.05 percent. The 1-year adjustable was down at 3.82 percent.
