Window replacement done right

By Bill and Kevin Burnett, Wednesday, February 11, 2009.

Q: On one side of the house, I have old-style wood windows with the lead counterweight on a rope. They were painted closed decades ago. I am planning to replace them with vinyl windows. When I did this in a previous house, the contractor pulled out the old aluminum windows and dropped the new vinyl ones right in. But with all the extra wood for the old window guides, I don't see how it will be done and not look really bad from the inside.  more...

I've got a few things on my plate right now. There are the personal obligations such as the issue of where my younger daughter will be attending college in 18 months. Having determined only what she doesn't want to be (a real estate agent), the field is wide open, and her current short list includes every school with "university" or "college" in the name. We will be visiting the electoral college over spring break just to rule it out.

By Matt Carter, Wednesday, February 11, 2009.

First American CoreLogic has filed suit against Foreclosure.com and is no longer providing the site with data, claiming that information it provided under a licensing agreement was showing up on at least 77 unauthorized Web sites.

Foreclosure.com's founder denies that it was the source of any data leaks, and says the lawsuit stems from First American CoreLogic's attempts to grow its competing business.  more...

Redfin launches referral network

By Inman News, Wednesday, February 11, 2009.

High-tech real estate company Redfin today announced the launch of a referral network that seeks to grow the company's reach to new markets without adding more feet on the ground.

The referral network includes 35 non-Redfin agents for consumers to peruse and choose from at the company's Redfin.com site -- the agents work at 12 brokerage companies. The size of the referral network exceeds Redfin's own staff of 20 agents.  more...

Trulia to power WashingtonPost.com searches

By Matt Carter, Wednesday, February 11, 2009.

The Washington Post hopes a new partnership with Trulia will help the newspaper's Web site become the "definitive source" for real estate information in and around the nation's capital.

Under the terms of a multiyear agreement announced today, real estate search engine Trulia will power a co-branded Web site to be launched in April at WashingtonPost.com.  more...
