Homeowner evades insurance-claim stigma

By Robert Bruss, Wednesday, June 30, 2004.

DEAR BOB: I read your recent article about homeowner's insurance and your advice to never file a small homeowner's claim. I had exactly the opposite experience. I have had my homeowner's and car insurance with State Farm for many years and have never had a problem with them. When we moved into our home, within the first two or three years, we had to file claims for a new roof because of hail damage, a new kitchen floor because of a leaking refrigerator, and fixing a leaking shower. All of these claims have been filed since 1991.  more...

Best way to hang punching bag

By Bill and Kevin Burnett, Wednesday, June 30, 2004.

Are condo owner's lawsuit costs tax deductible?

Home builders covet baby-boomer market

By Tom Kelly, Wednesday, June 30, 2004.

Baby boomers say they wouldn't be caught dead living in an age-restricted community, but what they eventually will do is another matter.

That's the opinion of Eric Snider, who has a doctorate in social psychology and serves as Shea Homes' marketing director for Trilogy, the company's upscale active adult communities. He constantly tries to ascertain what people over 50 expect in a home and then tries to deliver that product in an appropriate atmosphere.  more...
