Despite housing slowdown, today's the time to buy

By Tom Kelly, Wednesday, September 12, 2007.

Is there merit in waiting for the housing market to cool before jumping in to buy a home? While that question may be on the minds of many consumers, the possibility of a significant drop in home prices coupled with a terrific downward trend in mortgage interest rates is rather remote.  more...

Overhaul my 40-year-old deck

By Bill and Kevin Burnett, Wednesday, September 12, 2007.

Q: I have been contemplating redoing my ancient deck and decided to solicit your comments and advice.

I laid this deck down about 40 years ago over a concrete slab at my home in Sunnyvale, Calif. The deck is approximately 30 feet long by 10 feet deep, consisting of extremely straight and relatively knot-free redwood 2-by-4s. Unlicensed remodeler makes costly mistake

By Robert Bruss, Wednesday, September 12, 2007.

DEAR DOROTHY: If title to your home was held with your late husband in joint tenancy with right of survivorship (or tenancy by the entireties in states where allowed) or in a revocable living trust, it is a very simple matter to clear the titles of his name. Probate court interference is not required.  more...
