Fishing with a big dot-net
A company in Australia that operates the Rooms.net and Local.net Web sites paid $300,000 for the RealEstate.net Web site domain, the company announced today.
The company, Real Estate.NET Holdings Pty Ltd., based in Newcastle, Australia, plans to develop the site into "a worldwide agent solutions network, focusing initially in the U.S.," according to the announcement.
The announcement describes RealEstate.net as a "provider of online services to the real estate industry. These services include agent Web sites, feature sites (individual property feature Web sites), agent directory for public users, agent referral network for agents and @realestate.net e-mail addresses."
Mason Fok, CEO for the company, said in a statement, "We think realtors and consumers need access to a greater range of services on the Internet without the headaches of maintaining memberships at several Web sites to achieve the one result, and we believe we can meet those needs with one brand."
The site is already live but will formally launch in late February, the company announced.
The RealEstate.net site is not to be confused with RealEstate.com, a real estate site that is affiliated with LendingTree, a part of Barry Diller's IAC/InterActiveCorp.
