Shhhhh! Danville, Ill., has cheap houses
The Southern Illinoisan newspaper reports that the Danville Board of Realtors in Illinois has decided to withhold sales data from the National Association of Realtors trade group after the Danville metro area ranked as the lowest-price market in the nation during the second quarter of 2006.
"We looked into it – all avenues of what we should do," stated Debbie Borgwald, executive officer of the Danville board, in the article. "We want to let people know Danville is a great place to live." She also told the newspaper that the low prices for the metro area had generated negative publicity.
Inman News reported in August that the Danville, Ill., metro area had an 11.2 percent decline in metro-area home prices in the second quarter of 2006 compared to second-quarter 2005, and that metro area had the lowest median price for single-family existing homes among the 151 metro areas tracked by the national Realtor group.
According to that report, five metro areas in Illinois, four in Indiana and four in Ohio had price declines in second-quarter 2006 when compared with second-quarter 2005.The national median existing single-family home price was $227,500 in second-quarter 2006.

"The average listing price for homes for sale in Danville IL was $142,772 for the week ending Jul 22, which represents a decrease of 0.8%, or $1,201, compared to the prior week."
They may not be reporting to the National Association of Realtors but the information is easily obtainable on the internet.
