A Slower Pace Beyond the 'Burbs Construction, sales and price growth are slower in the exurbs – those semi-rural communities at the suburban fringe, according to a Reuters news report. "Home construction in these distant exurbs has slowed and prices and sales have fallen more than those of close-in suburban neighbors since a five-year U.S. housing boom ended in the summer of 2005," according to the report. Average home prices fell about 11 percent in 2006 in Loudoun County, Va., which is about 35 miles away from Washington, D.C., according to Virginia Association of Realtors statistics, while closer-in Arlington County had a price drop of about 2 percent. And while home prices rose 5.8 percent in Los Angeles in December compared to December 2005 and a 14.5 percent drop in sales, further-out counties of Riverside and San Bernardino had 3.9 percent price growth and a 40.6 percent drop in sales volume, according to the report. --Glenn Roberts Jr., Inman News
