Agent Space, from Coldwell Banker
By toddwcarpenter@gmail.com, Wednesday, March 14, 2007.Coldwell Banker is getting into the blogging game. According to Blogging Systems' Realty Blogging site,
"Agent Space will prove to be a powerful marketing tool for Coldwell Banker agents with a Profile page. It's an opportunity for them to publish blog posts, create links to local businesses and organizations, create calendar events and create special Kid's Corner entries as well. Best of all, the user interface is extremely simplistic requiring very little time and effort for Coldwell Banker agents to update."
The strategy that every employed agent could be contributing to the content level of their blog is an ingenious move for Coldwell Banker, and it will be very convenient for agents who are Internet-challanged. However, I also think a Coldwell Banker agent might want to think twice about participating. I think agents should ask themselves, "Do I want to be known by name, or as an agent for Coldwell Banker?" I'm sure it's a great company to work with, and it doesn't hurt any of their agents to leverage Coldwell's name recognition. But I would be weary of exerting to much of my efforts increasing their prominence over my own. Publishing personal content online is so cheap and easy, that there is really no reason why every individual agent shouldn't have their own blog or Web site, independent of the company they work for.

Good point, Todd.
Increasingly, real estate brokerages are moving toward offering their agents "space" on the company controlled domain name. Certainly, this is convenient for the agent and offers the agent freedom of expression at little or no cost.
However, the agent is actually generating original content for the brokerage site. Depending on the structure, many of these sites will aggregate the incoming links for the agents' blogs to the brokerage site. This gives the brokerage site the massive advantage in search engine optimization and resulting traffic.
