Casting votes on affordable housing
By Glenn Roberts, Jr., Friday, March 16, 2007.
Representatives for major national housing and public policy groups will discuss the results next week of a poll on attitudes and priorities for affordable housing. The coalition includes the Mortgage Bankers Association, National Association of Home Builders, National Association of Realtors, National League of Cities, National Low Income Housing Coalition and U.S. Conference of Mayors, among others.
The nationwide poll included questions about personal priorities and voting behavior on affordable-housing issues.
The release of the poll results on March 21 kicks off an affordable-housing awareness campaign, "Housing America 2007," that will run through April 9 and will feature a number of events that "highlight the great need for affordable housing in this country," according to an announcement by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials.
The announcement poses a question: "With skyrocketing home prices and the current subprime mortgage challenges, where does affordable housing rank as a priority and in relationship to the 2008 election cycle?"
