By Matt Carter, Thursday, October 25, 2007.With damage estimates exceeding $1 billion California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner declared an "insurance emergency" Wednesday, which he said would expedite claims from the wildfires in Southern California. Today the Department of Insurance published contact info for property and auto insurers to help fire victims file claims.
FEMA has also put together a Web page with links to local resources, places to stay, and available assistance.
FEMA has activated its National Emergency Family Registry and Locator System and National Emergency Child Locator Center to help reunite families that have become separated as a result of the fires in California.

The American Red Cross also has a "Safe and Well Website" to help family members let each other know they are OK.
