Viva, False Elvis

LAS VEGAS -- "But this time, lord you gave me a mountain
A mountain you know I may never climb
It isn't just a hill any longer
You gave me a mountain this time."
Matt Lewis, an Elvis impersonator (pictured here) who performed for a crowd of Realtors today during the annual National Association of Realtors conference, said he picked out the song "You Gave Me a Mountain" (lyrics above) specifically for the audience of real estate professionals, given the goings-on in the mortgage market.
But the many homeowners who are facing the prospect of losing their homes to foreclosure during this major downturn may relate more to the opening lines of the next tune that Lewis sang:
"We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out ..."
Pat Vredevoogd Combs, president for the National Association of Realtors, later took the stage and referred to the "changing and really confusing market" that real estate consumers are facing.
