The site "aims to transform an often-overlooked part of the Internet which has remained unchanged for over 10 years, as well as introduce new users to these vibrant communities," according to a promotional announcement today.
The site requires registration but is free to use. Users can embed photos and videos within forum posts and receive e-mail notifications about responses to their posts. Widgets allow users to embed talk activity from their forum site within other Web sites like MySpace. Also, the site has spam blocker and offers RSS feeds and automated newsletters.
"Lefora will do for forums what Blogger did for blogs," said David Shen, a lefora investor, in today's announcement. The company is based in San Francisco.
