Seems like the housing market slump is affecting all segments of the market...

In a story published in the Onion today it seems there has been a nationwide slump in Creepy-Mansion sales. "Thousands of creepy mansions like these are tied up in Escrow or ancient blood curses," reports the publication.

"Two years ago, a four-bedroom with a triple homicide would ignite a bidding war among young couples desperate to get into what they naïvely thought would be their dream home," Trammel says. "We were handing out 30-year fixed rate [mortgages] with nothing down to anyone who was willing to ignore the spine-tingling whispers emanating from the basement. But since the market crashed, people don't even want to look inside."

Not all is doom and gloom however, the article reports some hope that the market might turn around.

He cites a new report from the National Association of Realtors that shows a marked increase in the number of new homes built atop ancients sites of unspeakable evil where the blood of innocents was shed upon an altar of stone.

I guess that's good news!

Well, I'm sorry to see the Onion joining the ranks of MSM outlets feeding the public's irrational fear of investing in creepy mansions. If you can't trust the Onion, where are you supposed to go for accurate, unbiased information?

Because you know, it really is "a great time to buy or sell a creepy mansion."

I got all excited for a second thinking "I've always wanted a creepy mansion". But then I saw it was the Onion. Whenever I watch all movies where the creepy old mansion sells for cheap because its "haunted" Im always wish it worked that way in real life.

The article a bit farther down the page may state another reason sales of creepy places have slowed.

Matt Carters comment made me laugh almost as much as reading the original article at The Onion! Unfortunately I don't do creepy, so much in fact that I have to scroll past the image of Linda Blair from the Exorcist on a more recent post here on the site.

I such a chicken that I'd probably pass on a listing that was too creepy. We're talking recent murder or tragic event. No kidding. Mace doesn't work on the paranormal :)

Creepy, old, haunted mansions abound around Cheesman Park near downtown Denver. Several of the blocks their are reputed to be the best streets for trick-or-treating Halloween. The front porch theater is incredible. Some of the ghouls, mummies and ax murderers are actually breathing.

Prices and sales of these homes have been relatively steady. Evidently, the demand is high for authentic creepiness. What a surprise especially considering that it is the park itself that used to be a cemetery. When the remains were relocated decades ago, workers reported that some graves were not disturbed on purpose. Evidently, soft moaning sounds could be heard just above ground level discouraging workers from completing their task. Maybe, it is those abandoned souls but still stroll in the nearby houses and are especially active around Halloween.
