Is there a real estate office in your future?

An Inman News Case Study, based on a survey of 1,330 real estate professionals, explores the future relevance of real estate offices.

The 32-page study, "Beyond Brick and Mortar: Rethinking the Real Estate Office," analyzes trends in time spent in company offices, home offices, and in the field, including future expectations.

The study also explores changes in staff size and office size, and examines whether the relevance of the office relates to the size of the office, company type, location or other factors. There is a thorough discussion of specific types of tools and services that company offices provide, and how agents vs. brokers view the importance of each. The report is available for purchase at the Inman.com store (study including charts and detailed survey results).

Rethinking the Real Estate office is critical especially when it comes to keeping your operating costs lower. Why is it necessary to have office space? Are there ways to make agents more mobile and virtual? If the ROI made sense to downsize office space and replace with paperless and mobile solutions would you consider a big change your thinking?

There is a lot to consider when looking at the available solutions and more importantly client perception of how you run your business. At the end of the day giving your clients superior service is critical to longterm success.

In the medium to longterm run it is about conversion. Changing your perception of how you operate your business is key to accepting change. Let us get you there one step at a time.

We were a virtual office for the first 8 years until I recruited agents from an office closing down. They are asked for office space so I leased a small office for them. It has been used three times in a year.

I'm going back to officeless. Low overhead can survive any dips.

A picture is worth a 1000 words. Great pictures = more calls on your listings = more business. never post a bad picture.

From a clients perspective, cost savings could also be passed on since expensive commercial space won´t be neccessary.

I feel the industry will always have the big, overhead heavy companies, but the little guy with the correct knowhow any expertise will be able to compete directly.

Many of us still think of work as something that is done specifically in offices. But the 21st century is seeing a constant shift to more flexible working arrangements.

Many more people are now dividing their time between home offices and more traditional places of work. But even in the home there may not always be a dedicated space for working. Some people take advantage of wi-fi and other modern tactics to ensure they can work from their pergolas or other outdoor spaces.

And why shouldn’t we? Making better use of our homes is always a good solution and it makes our lives more enjoyable and productive as well.
