WHAT IS YOUR STRATEGY FOR SUCCESS IN 2009?

The R word has finally been spoken. Not only the US, but the world is acknowledging the recession we have all been experiencing. While there is talk the recession will be long and turbulent, my optimism for success remains prudently intact.

The luxury market here in South Florida is still active. There have been more inquiries and offers made as of late to ensure closings before year-end for tax and homestead purposes. However, all indications point to a slowing market in 2009.

I read that Ben Bernanke announced US interest rates may drop to zero in 2009. Mortgage rates are supposed to drop to 4.5 through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, according to the Wall Street Journal. Results of such actions are left to be seen, but I will leave the world’s economy in the hands of the experts. My focus is to keep my real estate business active and solvent.

The question to my colleagues is, “What are you doing to keep your business healthy during this difficult time?”

I have taken simple, but immediate steps. First,I have revamped my marketing plan, especially in magazine advertising, and negotiated the best possible rates. While I have enjoyed the luxury of extensive advertising in the past, I have streamlined my choices to best meet my specific target audience. Next, the Internet, from which I have earned good results this year, will become my next best business partner. I believe a new website, continued blogging and social networking will bring greater return for my marketing dollars than other media. Also, since knowledge is power, continuing to keep informed of real estate and economic trends during these fluctuating times will help when advising buyers and sellers with contract negotiations. Lastly, and as always, I work closely with my team to deliver outstanding professional service for clients above and beyond expectation.

The saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going,” is a philosophy to which I ascribe. I accept that next year, and possible longer, will be challenging to the real estate world. However, a challenge to me is opportunity. Entrepreneurs of the past always found success in down times. How will you make yours? This inquiring mind wants to know.

Sincerely,
Julie Jones
