DO UNUSUAL TIMES CALL FOR EXTRAORDINARY ENERGY?

Absolutely. A potential seller I met with last week commented, “I want a broker who is going to bring energy to marketing my house and not just collect another listing.”

This struck me as profoundly thought-provoking, especially in light of the President’s recent speech. Bringing a high level of personal energy to business is challenging at the moment, especially since every American must draw on personal, extraordinary energy to help rebuild their corner of America.

This prospect can be exciting for real estate if we rise above the prevailing undertone of negativity making it difficult to maintain consistent energy levels. Sellers frustrated by price adjustments and buyers without confidence to pull the trigger on a purchase draw an enormous amount of energy from a broker maintaining the enthusiasm and professionalism necessary to generate a contract in this market.

Knowing when to make that extra push or provide that extra information to help a buyer or seller’s decision process may be the difference between success or failure in terms of securing positive results. Managing frustration levels requires extraordinary energy, but it can be done.

Focusing on positive influences protects us from negative events and interactions that drain our efforts. I refuse to entertain negative talk. I’m eating well and getting enough sleep. That way, when the opportunity arises to match-make buyers to properties, I know I can excel in this very exciting process, especially by bringing my own unique energy. We all know that heady feeling when our energy is “On.” Don’t you wish we could bottle that power? It inspires us to go out and go through the same process, all over again.

You may draw your energy from family, spiritual sources, practical considerations such as paying the mortgage, or just the passionate drive for a job well done. My energy comes from a love of the real estate market, the support of amazing family, friends, and incredible team members, and the fact that I work for a dynamic and highly energized luxury real estate brokerage. The sheer volume of my business demands that I find energy (which is greater some days than others), but it is always there. By being accountable to my sellers and buyers, I ensure they have honest and correct information to achieve their real estate goals for 2009. Positive energy and accountability will get you noticed in a market where uncertainty prevails. There is no room for negativity.

I am curious. How do you draw your extraordinary energy?

Wishing you the best from my corner of paradise,

Julie

Thank you Julie!! As I was reading your post I realized that I was a victim of my own negativity this morning. I've begun to realize that it is getting harder and harder to pick up the phone and prospect every day, and because of this steady downhill slope of negativity today has been a rock-bottom Monday. But now I have some caffeinated tea and, along with your refreshing words of wisdom, I think I can make it to 5 o'clock Friday. Have a great week Julie!

Julie,
I find that focusing on activities that we can control will keep the energy flowing. Also, understanding that it is a matter of market share is important. The agents that work hard and provide the service will earn the business.

Thanks for bringing this up Julie. Staying positive is increasingly hard and you don't realize how much of your negativity rubs off on potential buyers. I try to focus on one deal at a time and spread as much good news as possible. In fact, my company saw an increase in sales across the board this week! Things are looking up and buyers are finally pulling the trigger. Keep your chins up - we will prevail!
