How Many RSS Feeds are in Your Reader?
Posted in Real Estate Bloggers By Jay Thompson, Thursday, April 10, 2008.I'm assuming that most people in this group use an RSS reader to read blogs. (That may not be a safe assumption....)
Was curious as to how many RSS feeds folks are subscribed to.
I use Google Reader and have .... 425 feeds. Seems ridiculous, but it is what it is.

I use Google Reader - 120 feeds, that I've been weeding out and adding to over time, so the number has stays pretty constant.

Too many ! I read a blog and want to save it, but am finding I do a lot of reading at one time, I skim the title, first sentence if it grabs me I read the whole thing. If not I mark as read and move on. Lately I've been following more links on twitter.

146 local blogs (and keyword searches etc) and 151 real estate blogs plus about 250 additional ones that I scan less frequently but depend on for afore-mentioned keyword searches.
It's way too many, I know.

The feed count in your reader is one thing - I'd like to know if anyone actually reads an of them beyond the headline. I barely have time to skim the NYTimes, never mind look at more than 1 or 2 blogs on any kind of regular basis. I mainly rely on google alerts for reading and focus on posting on my own blog as frequently as possible
Our market is fortunately, still very active so I'm out on showings many days. When I sit at an open house I think I'll have some free time to read on-line and there has been a continuous flow of visitors. Can't complain about that!

I use the Google Reader and I have to admit that I keep a measley 4 blogs in it at work (all real estate related blogs).
I'm still in the process of growing that list based on blogs I perceive to be "influential" on a branding/national scene and then the active blogs that are within the markets my firm serves.
The criteria for me adding something to my feed reader is fairly strict. The blog has to show consistency in one of the following:
* A source of material for me to link out to from the USM blog (things our clients will gain benefit from knowing about).
* Market research (how are various markets doing, general listening to the chatter).
* Receive a healthy dose of comments (magnifying the effects of the first two).
* Generally agree or disagree with my own views (I think it's important to hear voices that are contrary to my own).
* In some way increases my knowledge about specific topics.
I check my feed reader every couple days and read the posts that catch my eye.

132 in Google Reader, which is about the number I can keep up with. I've got them all in folders, categorized by type, so I can read all of one type together: mortgage, industry, local blogs, SEO, etcetera. Makes it easier to digest. I had close to 400 and got overwhelmed, so I've pared down to this level - and anyone new that gets added, someone has to leave.
