How Many Blogs is too Many?

How many blogs do you have? Contribute to? Can you get "over-exposed" by too much blogging? (not to mention burned out!)

In addition to my main blog, I also contribute to AgentGenius.com, HomeGain's Blog and GeekEstateBlog.com. And NARWisdom! (thanks Jim!)

One more and I think my head will explode...

I don't know -

I have mine, contribute to VARBuzz, AgentGenius, write a hyperlocal blog ... that about does it for me. Any more and I'd have to be paid to write. :)

My advice - Don't write any more than you can handle and do well consistently.

PS - you forgot that you write NARWisdom as well. Or did you forget b/c you have so many? Guess your head would have exploded ...

Oh yeah, that one too... post edited, thanks Jim. You've contributed to NARWisdom as well my friend (and are welcome to do more!)

So far I think I'm OK on the doing well consistently part (others would probably disagree), but I'm sure Drew, Louis, Benn and Lani could make an effective argument about my lack of consistency in posting to the group blogs...

In addition, I think that posting on differently-focused blogs is key. If you're posting the same content on the same-focused blogs, you're destined for complacency and mediocrity.

Duh, meant to say "lack of frequency" to the group blogs...

When your wife has to comment on one of them to talk to you.

I think the key is how much time and quality do you have to offer?

I am blogging on AgentGenius, YPN, and my own blog. However, I've hit a wall on all of them. My personal blog is suffering -- which directly impacts my business.

Though I think Joseph's comment is the most fitting. When it disrupts other aspects of your life ... then it is too much.

I have 2 blogs, but one of them is solely my content and the other has guest authors that supplement my own writing and are appraiser colleagues of mine. It's more narrowly defined and has less content. I've always looked at blogging as a personal release for my passion about a topic. If its a mechanical process, and not passionate, then the reader can tell. If you ever don't feel like writing. Don't. Please. Otherwise it's a job.

I focus on my own blog and then ActiveRain. My goal is to drive everyone to my own blog. I am also a member of numberous blog sites and social websites like Facebook but don't post to them very often.

I agree with those comments above who stress the qualilty and passion!

I'm a little over a year into being licensed in NC, so my own blog is only a little over 4 months old and is evolving, with emphasis on statistics to build up comparisons. I also blog on Active Rain. Between these 2 sites and the marketing I need to do, I need to stay focused for now, but can't help but wonder if I should add another blog. Look forward to more comments/advice here.

I have two blogs. The Union Street Media blog (which is really for the whole firm, but I'm the main caretaker) and a personal one for non-real estate technology/marketing subjects in which I'm interested.

I also enjoy doing guest posts now and then. I prefer that to being committed to a team blog as it's a defined commitment.

I think over-exposure only happens if there is a decline in quality of your output and/or if you are always saying the same thing over and over (hmmm maybe I should talk about something besides analytics...).

And I agree with everyone above about when enough is enough.

I only have one blog and I have to say it's a lot of work..haha. I can't imagine having more than one. I'm in the middle of re-designing the site, adding features to the blog, going to school, getting another job to make ends meet. I can't imagine having more than one... i'd go nuts.

Here's a link to a web comic that bloggers can enjoy I'm sure. Makes more sense if you read the "Death by Blogging" article but it's still amusing if you didn't.

I struggle to keep up with three blogs and Activerain. The biggest reason I keep everything up and running is because I continue to see the benefits in my Google rankings. I know, I know, we're supposed to be writing for our readers not for the search engines but I gotta tell ya, writing for the search engines is starting to generate some income for me and I kinda like it. So I will continue to do my best to be a better writer for my readers, however few they may be, without sacrificing the power this can have on my SEO plan.

That said, I am looking for some willing bloggers/authors to be contributors and write for the first time home buyer community on www.firsthomeguys.com. Sorry for the gender thing, all genders are welcome in spite of what the name might imply.

I'm new to blogging. In your own words, what is your "system" to show up higher in the Google rankings. Thanks for the help. Sorry, not much to contribute to first time home buyers. However, I do refer a lot of new home buyers to the USDA Rural Housing program. (my tip for the day)
