Blog Training Wheels

Am I the only one searching for complete information on how to set up a blog and operate it for really good fresh leads. I see so many approaches and a few helpful books with lots of conflicting notions. Can anyone point me to a good source or did you all learn by trial and error.

At this stage it seems to me that a forum would be more desirable than a blog, or maybe combined with a blog. So many real estate blogs are just billboards with too little "conversation" between the expert and the seller/buyer. Seems like more of what's on the web sites already. What is the psychology for drawing good prospects, sell yourself or deliver valuable information? Obviously both, but that is not the answer I'm looking for. I want more specifics on how to do that. What has been most successful?

And, my last thought, why don't agents team up, two or even seven, to generate more diverse content for more readers? Let the readers pick who to trust when they are ready.

Hi Richard - Not sure how basic you want the info to be? While I do not blog specifically as a realtor, I do blog about vacation rentals and have found it worthwile. For the basics and step by step instruction these video tutorials can't be beat. Check out my blog entry from today for the link over to 10 videos to help you start a self hosted blog. I am sure that there is info about tracking etc. Here is the link and hope it helps - http://www.gofurnished.com/vacation-rentals-blogs-create-your-own-from-s... Best Regards

First, thanks all for great leads. I found Becomingablogger.com to be most informative for staring up thus far. Still looking for more marketing strategies.

Richard, do what makes all great writers: Write what you know. Blogging is supposed to be interesting, informative chatting. You know, business on your mind. Tips to help your fellow professionals, or to encourage sellers and buyers in these challenging economic times. I don't think there is any magic wand for blogging . . . just genuine intent, honest concern. As Reil so aptly wrote above, go ahead and get your feet wet!

Happy Blogging!

Hi Richard,

I started blogging on Activerain in 2006, I found the support to be excellent. It is like a forum in that people are very willing to help.

I had tried a couple of other platforms 6 months before and was about to give up when I landed on Activerain one cold December night.

Life has not been the same.
