Hawaii Real Estate Website | HawaiiLife.com 5.0

Aloha Everyone,

We launched a new version of www.HawaiiLife.com. Bounce rate is down to 14.5% (from 18.2%). Conversion rate is up to 2.4% (from 1.7%).

We've been working through a lot of bugs and would appreciate any feedback that will help us improve the site.

I'm really interested to get feedback on the galleries section, www.hawaiilife.com/galleries/. We've been getting really positive feedback and we're thinking about taking this design and making it the main search.

Thanks for your reviews,
Justin

Justin –

Very nice! Looks very similar to www.homeaway.com and a template we have been working on. Glad to hear it is converting well. Photo Gallery is a nice touch as too.

I like the gallery browsing a lot. Just a couple tweaks I would make on that page:

* don't show "- land" if you don't have that piece of data for a property
* instead of "10,515 land" I would show "0.24 acres"
* don't show "dom" if that data is empty
* could you squeeze in "37 days on market" instead? i don't think the average buyer would know what that means.

Otherwise I think the AJAX is very well done and an example of great usability.

Thanks for the advice:

@Jeff - I have seen the site homeaway.com before, but we didn't base the design off that site. But now that you mention it, there are similarities.

@Tony - Great suggestions. We'll put these on the bug list.

I guess I should be more specific with the question I'm trying to get at. Do you like the main search view (www.HawaiiLife.com/search.php) or the gallery view (www.HawaiiLife.com/galleries/) better?

Your bounce rate is right in line fora highly efficient and effective site. Ours is right about 14.18% on our main entry pages plus our conversations have gone up 4 to 6 times since we pushed our new design. A better user experience makes the HUGE difference ;-)

Same thing happen on this San Diego site when we pushed the new design and made the user experience better.

Aloha Jeff,

Bounce rate for our landing pages is around 12%. I totally agree with creating a better user experience. I wish I could get a little more feedback on the gallery vs. the standard search.

Tony and I like the Gallary for what that is worth. I guess others in the group are out drumming up business.

Jeff,
The gallery section is very nice. The quality of the photos is over the top. Did you do those yourself or hire it done?

Took me a second to wrap my head around your property search but that is probably more a function of my generation. I grew up wih a phone that had a handle you cranked & then graduated to a dialer on a party line.

Well done!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE the galleries... fantastic photos - and they load fast too! It makes for a much nicer browsing experience as far as I am concerned... it makes looking at the properties a pleasure - where as the standard search seems to always be sorting through a lot of "what I don't want" to try to find what I might be interested in.. I think the size of the image has a lot to do with it... Great work!

I do like the galleries but one thing unrelated - maybe you should take out the leasehold properties? I see a lot of low priced listings and people usually don't understand leasehold in hawaii.

I do like the new search though.

@Tony - Thanks for the advice. We should also provide an explanation of leasehold properties on our website whenever a property is leasehold.

Looking forward to meeting with you in Honolulu.
