New Map Search Goes Live
Posted in Real Estate Website Reviews By Jeff Manson, Tuesday, July 21, 2009.We just pushed our new interactive map search on my Hawaii real estate site. I would like to get some feed back if at all possible. I am sure there are still some bugs and would like to here about those as well so we can stomp them. Real Geeks team did the interactive map search and integrated IDX. In the spirit of full disclosure - I am one of the principles of Real Geeks, LLC.
Go here to do a search: www.rehawaii.com/refine/
1. Choose the location you want to search
2. Choose property type: Home & Condo
3. Click on the Map Search button below
You should be able see the results on the map and start playing with it from there.
Our goal was to keep it simple and easy to use for the user so they would not get lost or confused. I would love to hear what you like and do not like about it.

I like it. The only thing I would suggest is perhaps limiting the number of listings that appear on the map to under 20 at a time (just for load time). I tested it on an older pc and it was struggling to load all of the information. I don't know how many hand held surfers you get, but you might want to keep that in mind. I tried looking at one of the listings and none of the photos loaded. I sent you an email of the url to see if its just me or an error. How about adding a zip code field in the search criteria?

Looks a lot like our map based searched. I'm very flattered.
I did not notice the problem with the load times. I also like the Google search on the bottom left of the map. Nice job.

Thanks for the heads up. It would be great if you could email me how you ended up to the bug. Easier to recreate so we can stomp that out.
