I am a full time working REALTOR for the last 20 years. I have a passion for the MLS part of our business and have put in 12 years of volunteering. The MLS world is changing and being challenged by people with positive ideas and ways to improve the system for REALTORS and Brokers. Then there are others that think they can take over the MLS business, mostly for personal gain with out regard to the users best interests.

    For years NAR has been telling us about the high percentage of the public searching the internet first, before they call a REALTOR. Now they say that they can't support the MLSs that require a photo to go with each listing that is entered into the MLS. One thing that is missing from this artical is not one reference to the "customer". Who are the pictures really for? I have had clients get upset if I send them listings with out pictures. I have had clients say that when they are online searching and there is no photo they skip over the listing. What are we hiding or affraid of by not supporting the MLSs that have enough concern for the public, agents, and appraisers that require photos. It only makes our data that much more complete.

    When NAR was asked if this was going to be an MLS they said no. When CAR was developing their idea of a statewide data repository and they were asked if it was going to be an MLS they said no. So what do we have now, CARs version of a statewide MLS. Funny thing is that some of the people that we on the CAR committee that said "no MLS" are on the NAR committee that says "no MLS".
