David, I flat-out love your article! Don't get me wrong--I love technology and actually have a degree in Information Systems that helped me be a "rare breed" in my previous career in sales--someone who could talk the tech talk and could also relate to my clients. Fast forward to present time--more than a technical REALTOR--I am a people-person. I love what I do and technology helps me to be better at keeping efficient, lowering costs (for marketing), etc. Your quote: "Technology is their friend, not their crutch. They know that technology will not help them in a sales situation when the buyer is asking for clarification or reassurance. Only they can do that. The words they speak, not their technology, will make or break the sale." Is so dead on. I know of several people who are A+ at the technology thing in our industry, but can't hold a conversation together (or have a personality equivalent to a blade of grass). Moreover, as Matt Fagioli, so nicely stated, "business systems ain't new." Hello people--you MUST have the people skills, technical skills and systems to be successful in this industry! Many of these "experts" in SoMe, etc. don't know what the heck they are talking about and only have part of that equation down pat. Quite frankly, I am over-the-top tired of receiving hundreds of invites per month from people who failed at real estate sales and are now "tech gurus" (using Matthew's term) wanting to show me how to use technology in my business to "create more sales" or "brand my business on the Internet" as that wagon has long departed. Am I the only one that has grown weary of this? Thank you, again, for a articulate post that helps shed the light on being in balance! Warmest regards, Dawn L.
