I have been an agent since 1991 selling homes in the Northern Virginia suburbs just outside Washington D.C. Starting out in Vienna, where I still live, at Town and Country Properties and then I moved over to RE/MAX Presidential in 1994. Having done this long enough, I am a member of the NVAR Life Top producer and Million Dollar Clubs, and the RE/MAX International Hall of Fame.

I have lived in Vienna for the past 15 years, but have also lived in McLean and Oakton so I know the routines of living in those areas plus some insight for my clients on commuting, restaurants, cool movie theaters and other things people want to know when they move to an area. About 25% of my clients every year come from other parts of the country... or overseas.

My blog, dougfrancis.com, covers life in Northern Virginia especially the communities of Vienna, McLean and Oakton. Many of my posts on buying homes in these communities pop right up and are written to be informative for anyone who may be looking at buying homes here or across the country.

So I can also help clients meet a new guy to service the furnace, or a dog walker, or a good place to buy pizza. The essentials!

"The imaginary counteroffer" - fantastic! There is a moment in every home buyer's experience when they play out negotiation scenarios in their heads. It's almost impossible to tell people not to be stressed after looking for two months at forty homes (and a hundred more online).

I have said this for a few years, ever since clients started showing up with printouts from competitor's sites. They just want to see the houses and aren't loyal to any one site. It also helped me understand that my "IDX" was hard to use and of no use to them. Yes, I dropped that IDX vender quickly. In the past year some clients have had three real estate "apps" on their smartphones so they wouldn't miss anything... looking at the photos snd maps. They certainly have won the information battle. I am glad that the "data partner" in my area asked for a "more careful review process". Especially after the site showed me with an astronomical "average days on market number" last week. Yes, I did leave a critical comment on their Corporate Blog last week when my rising blood pressure almost blew a gasket. Doug Francis RE/MAX Presidential in Fairfax, Virginia
