  • The internet, new social
    By Emily MedvecMarch 30, 2011 - 3:25am

The internet, new social media technologies and the crash of the housing market have all contributed to make our industry different inside and out. People do business with people they "know, like and trust" and not a call center providing the latest price and information on a home they discovered while surfing at 2AM. Your column today is right on target about what most of us experience every day as we often see the screen before sunrise. The key is to do what is important in each of our local communities to make a difference by giving back. Old school marketing is far from "old" when your business is all about people. Thank you for telling it like it is for many of us. • Why is NAR "floating" a $40
    By Emily MedvecMarch 22, 2011 - 7:48pm

Why is NAR "floating" a $40 dues increase using the media? This already feels to much like a political campaign from inside the beltway and the lobbying offices in DC. I think it is time for NAR to begin to listen to their membership rather than find new ways to play political monopoly with member dues. Given the twitter stream already in progress #rppsi and #NAR, perhaps NAR will now consider polling all of the membership electronically before spending even more member dues money and valuable staff time to raise member dues! • The new technologies
    By Emily MedvecNovember 23, 2010 - 5:32am

The new technologies combined with social networking now require improved writing and communication skills to thrive in our industry. Most community colleges offer classes on writing for business and marketing. A new focus on learning would be a good place to start. Although the political class may use speech writers, I know from experience my customers prefer authenticity. In the end, they want to work with someone they know, like and trust.
