While I do agree that way too many agents continue to use the "it is a great time to buy/sell" no matter what, I do believe that asking RE agents to be financial advisor's is just not reality either. RE agents are RE professionals, not experts in financial affairs. RE agents should do the base financial homework for the borrower or seller to make sure, at first glance, that what they are seeking is a win for them personally. Looking more indepth should be handled by the other industry. We have banks, closing attorneys' etc. to handle those intriquette, person specific areas taht buyer's or seller's don't always explain to the agent. I believe that agents should advise their clients to speak with a financial adviser, RE attorney about their specific financial situation before investing in a home.
