I agree that the main benefit of obtaining the designations is the education it provides, and I list them in my profiles with brief explanations. I also stress that more importantly, I continue to participate in ongoing education and business development programs for providing Exceptional Customer Service and building Referrals. And as your last paragraph states, it's your external representation of your commitment to providing great service. While listing designations after your name may look impressive, I believe most agents also obtain them for the education and the networking. You can become a great agent without them, but I think people that have taken them, are more inclined to be the type to continuously learn more. I guess if I'm looking at lists of agents and I see those that have designations, I'm more likely to consider those that have them, because they have taken those extra steps. I have a lengthy email signature - I do list my designations behind my name, I list my website and blog etc., and I'm their real estate consultant for life, and a paragraph about referrals. I use the Wisestamp email application - that has links to my other profiles and social media, like linkedin, my blog RSS, etc. So when I'm conversing with someone, they have all the links to my important information and profiles in one place, and can get to know something about me. I believe that anything you can convey at first glance to show expertise is your open door, you have to eventually prove it, but it's your way in. I have this saying I like to quote in my profiles that I think is very true, 'Education ... a mind once stretched by a new idea never regains it's original dimensions.' I've read various articles over the years about obtaining designations and my vote's a 'yes'.
