In my experience I have worn many hats, from management positions in the medical industry, trucking industry, insurance industry and of course, the real estate industry. My grandmother, a prominent member in the real estate industry, Martha Puckett, was involved in real estate for more than 30 years and provided me with enormous exposure making this an easy decision to become a professionally licensed Realtor. I have been licensed for over three years and have enjoyed the learning experience.

Owning a business has taught me the customer decides if you will be successful or not. “If your customers are happy, then sales are great. A lot of my work in retail, were referrals, if you treated someone as you wanted to be treated…they came back. It wasn’t always about making a sale. Sometimes a customer just has a few questions or maybe they just needed a few ideas, resulting in my success.

The current market conditions have allowed me to really focus on bringing "true value" to customer service. In everyday situations I strive to bring value back to my industry and explain to clients, friends and family the importance of a real estate agent and what we do for our clients. It takes integrity, loyalty, knowledge and understanding to become successful, applying these traits to your everyday life keeps you successful. I look forward to a bright future in real estate and continued success.

Just recently I began using some of the sites mentioned in this article and I am impressed at how far marketing has come. It can be exciting to meet others in my industry as well as potential clients by "virtual marketing". Its necessary to take time and learn all of the possibilities available and most importantly, apply them! Interestingly enough in more than 5 transactions in 2008 (including a personal one), clear title was not conveyed to my clients. Mind you, these were homes that had been sold numerous times NOT new construction homes. Obviously these clients were charged and paid for their title work/closing costs. However the attorneys allowed the closings without reviewing the information or recommending title insurance. I had attorneys tell clients that title insurance was not necessary because they did such a thorough job!! Clients were later told (some during refinancing with different, more detail oriented attorneys) of their bad title. Clearly we should throw into the mix with title companies, realtors, lenders...ATTORNEYS! This situation has gotten out of control however there are Realtors out there who want change and will demand change to bring back integrity to this industry. This is an article real estate agents should print, post and read daily. It is so important not to lose focus. Agents can't treat this time any differently than they did before. You HAVE to work to be successful...period. Janet Howard, Realtor, SRES Principal & Co-founder Parker Howard Properties Savannah, Georgia
