Katherine A. Pontone, GRI, SRES, e-PRO. began her real estate career in 1982. She worked with Ritebuy Home Sales.Inc until the summer of 1985, when she opened Bright Horizons Realty, Inc in Sheepshead Bay. In 1986 she joined the Brooklyn Board of Realtors and has been an active member ever since.
Kathy has served on the Board of Directors for the Brooklyn Board in different positions throughout the years and now serves as its Treasurer.
She was also actively involved in the South Shore MLS and served as its President from 1990 to 1993.
In 1994 she was instrumental in bringing to the Brooklyn Board a monthly newsletter she named the PULSE and remained its Editor in Chief for the first 2 years of its publication.
In 1995 she was named Brooklyn’s REALTOR of the Year.
In 1997 she earned her GRI designation. She opened branch office in Staten Island on Hylan Bvld in Great Kills and joined the Staten Island Board of REALTORS as a secondary board member. In October 2003 bought a building at 305 Nelson Avenue, where she opened a branch office in February 2004.
From 1999 to the present she has served on the Professional Standards Committee for the Staten Island Board of REALTORS.
In 2001 she worked on the Brooklyn Board’s First Agents’ Day, which was well received and very successful.
In 2001 she was again named Brooklyn’s REALTOR of the year.
In 2007 she earned her SRES designation form the National Association of REALTORS and is committed to educating our aging population’s concerns for their housing needs. She is working with professional estate planners, financial advisors and health care workers to develop an educational program which they well give free of charge to any organization.
She was part of the team that worked to merge The South Shore MLS and the Mid County MLS. This was achieved in 2003 and the Brooklyn New York Multiple Listing Service was formed. She was elected as its first president and served in that position until May 2005.
Under her leadership, the membership of the Brooklyn New York MLS voted to become an all REALTOR MLS. This increased the Brooklyn Board of REALTORS membership from approximately 400 members to 2,400 members.
