I'm surprised to see the lack of comments about this IDX issue from agents in the field. Many agents in Dallas are playing fast and loose with listings that do not belong to them. For example, they think it is okay to advertise a competing agent's listing in a blog post. They don't ask the agent's permission. They just steal the listing agent's copyrighted photographs from the MLS database and load them into the blog post. They steal the listing agent's comments, too, but then they add additional comments of their own. Sometimes they mention the name of the listing agent. Sometimes they don't. Some agents are going so far as to post these ads in Craigslist. Others are setting up programs such as vFlyer to syndicate the ads under their names. You find the same house listed twice on big sites such as Trulia, once under the listing agent's name and a second time under the usurper's name. My first thoughts on reading this article: 1) inappropriate, 2) unprofessional 3) downright rude to the sellers and their listing agents.
