Experience: My Love of Real Estate started before I was born, when my parents (part-time developers of high-end apartment buildings) built their first apartment and gave it the same name they gave me: LIGI APT. (It still stands in a street in Nishantash, Istanbul, behind the old English High School for Boys on the way to the old American Hospital.) My family is Armenian, and from my grandfather I have inherited my love of numbers (he was a mathematician who spoke more languages than one can count on both hands!), from my mother I inherited my love of museums and poetry (she used to quote Verlaine, Hugo and Beaudelaire - an extension of her French education) and my father passed on his love of Real Estate and opera to me (Mom always said she fell in love with his voice first!) My first property was a penthouse in the same neighborhood where my namesake building stands, but it was not until I bought the 50 acres of land in Washington State in 1978 that I got the bug! I have, since, loved buying and selling Real Estate.. Affiliations: Currently represent Keyes on the International and Creative Industries Commissions of the Broward Alliance. Past member of the Broward Resource League. Served on the New World Symphony Community Board, 1988-1994. Edited the South Florida Poetry Magazine 1983-1987. One of the founders of WithIt, the first women's association of the Home Furnishings Industry in the US. Served on the Board of the Foundlings Club in Miami Beach run by Miami ’ s philanthropist son, Mickey Wolfson. Was the first woman member of the all male Oriental Rug Importers Association. Education : Graduate of The American College for Girls, Istanbul Turkey Graduate of The English High School For Girls, Istanbul, Turkey Languages: English, French, Turkish, Armenian, Italian Floridian : I arrived in Florida in 1980 and lived in Hollywood for 1 year before moving to Plantation where my daughter attended Seminole Middle and Plantation High Schools. Then I lived in Sans Souci, North Miami for seven years. Fort Lauderdale has been home since 1996. Personal : I have lived in different countries and have embraced the many cultures of the world. I have concluded that a smile and a handshake will narrow any cultural, linguistic or religious gap when we keep an open and curious mind .

    Since this is another "financial" issue with the NAR, because their existence depends on the number of members they have; those of us who are willing to raise the bar, the standards of our industry and flush out as many of the colleagues we have who cannot commit full time into their RE careers, need to organize and demand that we pay twice the dues to the NAR in return for the following: - Harder requirements to get a RE license. - Must be mentored for at least 1 year within the Brokerage before they can actually receive their license, - Tougher ethics rules that the consumer is also aware of, to bring more credibility to what we do, - Part timers need to have a different designation that must be made public. I have nothing against someone wanting to sell their mother's home and save the commission, and then just keep their license in case they get another friend/relative to work with, but they need to do it under a different name/license. This of course would change the income stream of the Brokerages but will in the long run make this business more solid, credible and might even eliminate the “discounters”, “the fly by-nighters” and those who like vultures feed upon the frenzy during the good times. Brokers are only as good as the Realtors they have, but this seems to be escaping most of them so far. Yet, the good Brokerage companies who train their agents constantly with the newest tools, technology and the constantly changing rules and regulations must be rewarded somehow and have the public be aware of the difference in their professional approach to the business.
