This is just an exercise in futility. As mentioned in the article, in our current market situation where homebuyers have little bargaining power in relation to REO owners (banks) or 3rd-party approvers (banks), the banks will always get their choice of escrow/title providers. With all the budget mess in California going on right now, don't the California legislators have better things to do than implement meaningless legislation? Though born and raised in California, things like this make me happy to now be living in Utah! I agree there is real value in providing the tax credit incentive to first-time homebuyers. The argument that the incentive is going to buyers who would have purchased a home anyway just doesn't hold water here in the Utah real estate market: the credit is really making a difference in getting renters out of apartments and into homeownership. I hope Congress does extend the credit. I have 2-3 buyers that want to use the credit, but just won't be able to make it work before the deadline. Another 6 - 12 months would be very helpful. Great information. Though I wish I did not have to work short sales, the reality of the market place dictates that I do. Sounds like a great book to recommend to my buyers who are on the fence about taking the short-sale route. Thanks!
