I agree with many of comments posted already and would just like to add the following: Mark Zuckerberg was named Time Magazine's Person of the Year in December. That does not happen without one having a significant (some may say profound) impact on what is happening in the world. Facebook's mission to map the "social graph" of our connections in the world. This "mapping" is transformational in the opportunities that businesses have to build relationships and market themselves. Real estate agents, who understand that the power of relationships, referrals, and word of mouth marketing are core to their businesses success, are well advised to learn how Facebook supports relationship building, sphere of influence marketing, and branding through the myriad of tools they offer (there is SO much more than just the profile). Understanding Facebook as a marketing tool IS a process, but one that is well worth spending the time to learn for any agent who values relationships and their customers. Many of the fears I commonly hear about Facebook marketing (Disclosure: I teach FB marketing...one of my channels is through N.A.R.'s Realtor University) are based in an ignorance of the tool. It really is a new way of thinking and I understand that some agents and people have challenges grasping it. However, I would encourage those who have concerns to educate themselves on the opportunities and value that Facebook provides as opposed to rejecting it completely based on fitting into a particular age range. Once you understand the tool, you can make strategic decisions about what will work, and what won't work for you on Facebook (in both a business, and a personal sense).
