More than 30 years of advertising, marketing and public relations experience in high technology. I joined my wife, Suzanne Jernigan, in her real estate business about 11 years ago. She has been a licensed agent in Texas since 1976. The third person on our team is Suzanne's son Derick Biggs. He was a new home sales counselor for a major builder prior to joining us.
We are affiliated with Ebby Halliday Real Estate the largest independent real estate firm in Texas with more than 1500 agents and brokers in North Texas. Our team is headquartered in McKinney, Texas in Collin County, one of the fastest growing cities in the country. All three of us have lived in the city since 1987.

I was always amazed to hear from people in other parts of the country that it was totally rational to believe that prices of residential properties were going to increase at 20%-plus annually. I could not see the source of inflation. We had plenty of land, labor prices were stable and materials were not inflating significantly. I also remember people who came to Texas to buy before our market began to inflate at the same rates. Their predictions never came true here, and we are glad of it. Of course without inflation the no money down purchases they made here were not able to be resold at a profit or cash out refied to cover expenses. In many markets it must have just been a case of "irrational exuberance." Ted Jernigan McKinney, Texas 75071 Jernigan@ebby.com

  • An agent I know and her

An agent I know and her buyer client were notified today by the REO seller to sign a 30 day extension for a contract they were supposed to close on 10/13 (tomorrow) or the seller will return the earnest money and terminate the contract. The buyer also has this option. The buyer has sold and closed on her current home and has everything in PODs or on a moving truck in preparation for moving into the new home. She is homeless. The letter from the seller says that they can ask for additional extensions if 30 days is not enough time to review paperwork. They are not guaranteeing that they will be ready to close in 30 days. What a disaster for an innocent by stander. Ted Jernigan Ebby Halliday REALTORS McKinney, Texas 75071 www.TeamJernigan.com 972-489-6173
