Tina Fine CEO/homingCloud I think Edina's decision makes a great deal of sense. All brokerages should stop feeding listings to third party sites, and realtor.com and create one national MLS. All those advertising dollars are wasted and just keep prices high to consumers of brokerage services.

Disagree with Brian that innovation comes or will come from publishers. I don't see publishers doing anything but taking profits. Are ZTR sites so spectacular? I think that the MLSs are very capable of innovating, as are other tech companies like Google or Facebook who can enter this space.

    By Tina FineFebruary 7, 2012 - 9:53am

I think the syndication issue is an important issue in the long term and it is understandable why those who are short term thinkers are not against it. In the short term, brokers want to get their listings seen and sold. But what about a few years down the road when sites like Trulia and Zillow get all of first looks have too much market power. If all buyers go to these few sites first, how much control will Brokerage firms have but to use them? There are large network effects at play. Consider the advantages FaceBook has, and think about leaving it. If all buyers go to Trulia or Zillow, then all sellers are going to insist on going there and they will have control. Brokerages need to link up via a transparent, uniform national data base of homes for sale, open to all to search, make it social and let buyers find homes directly. The brokerage industry needs to provide buyers services and sellers professional and transaction services and both buyers and sellers need to pay for it. Co-brokerage and commission base pricing is not sustainable for the future. The internet is going to undermine it one way or another. Maybe in two years, maybe in ten. Tina Fine CEO/homingCloud
