John Courson

Mortgage Bankers AssociationHaving begun his career in mortgage lending during summers in high school and college, John A. Courson has been involved in the home loan business for more than 40 years. Before earning an undergraduate degree in business and finance from the University of Colorado, he was originating loans as branch manager of a two-person office in a Denver suburb. After graduation, Courson worked as a loan officer for Fort Wayne Mortgage, working his way up to become... the Detroit-based company's president and CEO. He's served in the same capacity for Central Pacific Mortgage Co. and Westwood Mortgage Corp., and was president and chief operating officer of Fundamental Mortgage. Courson was chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association in 2003, and was appointed the following year by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the board of directors of the California Housing Finance Agency, which he chaired for four years. Courson became the Mortgage Bankers Association's chief operating officer in 2008, and was appointed president and CEO in January 2009.
