Housing, finance experts focus on the future

The National Association of Home Builders is hosting a semi-annual construction forecast conference today to highlight the national outlook for housing and home finance, regional economic patterns, and trends in consumer preferences.

The 2004 Spring Construction Forecast Conference, held at the National Housing Center in Washington, D.C., will feature discussions by economists and housing industry experts. The event centers on the questions: "Is a full-fledged economic expansion finally under way? Where does that leave the housing sector?"

David Berson of Fannie Mae and Michael Carliner of the NAHB are scheduled to give a presentation on "The Next Decade for Housing and Home Finance," and Eric Belsky of Harvard University will discuss "The State of the Nation's Housing."

Also, experts from Economy.com and Crystal Ball Economics will discuss regional economic patterns, followed by a talk by Gayle Butler of Better Homes and Gardens and Gopal Ahluwalia of NAHB on "Consumer Preferences: Homes and Home Buyers of Tomorrow."

Experts from Standard & Poor's and J.P. Morgan Chase are also scheduled to make presentations.
