University Town Center has broken ground on 725,000 square feet of mixed-use space at University Town Center in Hyattsville, Md.
Between now and mid-2006, the existing 1.3 million square foot office complex, located across the street from the Prince George's Plaza Metro station, will add a unique 16-story residence for some 900 college and graduate students at University of Maryland, a 16-screen movie theater, and more than 250,000 square feet of retail space.
UTC has signed a $70 million contract with Whiting-Turner Construction Co. for construction of the student residence and a new 442,000-square-foot parking garage with 1,150 spaces. UTC's first parking structure, a 444,778-square-foot building with 1,455 spaces, opened last month.
UTC is approved for more than 1 million square feet of additional office space, 370,000 square feet of retail and entertainment space, and 2,600 residential apartment units.
