Consumer confidence rises

U.S. consumer confidence climbed in June as the economy improved, according to a survey released today.

The University of Michigan's survey of consumer confidence this month showed the sentiment index rose to 95.6 from 90.2 in May.

The expectations index rose to 88.5 in June from 81.6 in May, and the current conditions component climbed to 106.7 from 103.6.

Consumer confidence is a key indicator of economic conditions.

The Conference Board, a nonprofit research and business group, on Tuesday will release its survey of consumer confidence.
