FirstAm grows Ohio title services

First American Title Insurance Co. on Monday announced it has acquired Midland Title Agency of Northwest Ohio Inc. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

A full-service title company with three offices in the greater Toledo, Ohio, area, Midland Title has been a First American agent for 20 years. In combination with First American's other local subsidiary, Port Lawrence Title, Midland aims to make First American the dominant service provider in the increasingly active real estate market in and around Lucas County, Ohio.

Under the guidance of Donald M. Mewhort III and Sandra M. Hylant, Midland expanded its presence in the region during the late 1990s. Expanded marketing efforts and the creation of a strong management team helped the company realize record profits between 2000 and 2003, according to a company statement. Mewhort will continue to serve as president of Midland Title and help consolidate existing back-office functions and systems with other First American area operations. Hylant will remain with the company as vice president.

Santa Ana, Calif.-based First American Title Insurance Co., the largest subsidiary of The First American Corp. (NYSE:FAF), offers title services through nearly 1,500 offices and an extensive network of agents throughout the United States and abroad.
