North Carolina enjoys brisk real estate sales

For the eighth consecutive month, existing-home sales in North Carolina posted double-digit gains, according to August statistics compiled by the North Carolina Association of Realtors.

Realtors reported 13,228 existing-home sales last month, up 16 percent over sales posted in August 2004.

The average existing-home sales price was $217,871 in August, up 12 percent from $194,150 a year ago.

On a year-to-date basis, more than 87,800 units have been sold statewide, an increase of 15 percent from sales posted during the first eight months of 2004.

All regions of the state continue to post positive growth, with Brunswick County posting the strongest year-to-date increase in total sales dollars. The strongest price appreciation on a year-to-date basis occurred along the coast where the average sales price increased 24 percent in Wilmington and 18 percent in Brunswick County.
