MLSs move to secure property databases

More of the nation's multiple listing services are taking action to try to prevent security breaches in their property databases by installing authentication systems for members.

Clareity Security announced today that it has signed 11 new contracts with MLSs in recent months to install its SafeMLS product, which provides token-generated, one-time passwords instead of traditional username and password system. The system is said to reduce password abuse and to increase MLS membership by an average of 15 percent in most markets, according to Clareity.

Clareity said it recently installed the system at the Brooklyn MLS in Brooklyn, N.Y.; Greater El Paso Association of Realtors in El Paso, Texas; Jacksonville Board of Realtors in Jacksonville, N.C.; Northwest Louisiana Association of Realtors Inc. in Shreveport, La.; and Greater Syracuse Association of Realtors in Syracuse, N.Y. 

The company also has signed agreements with several more MLSs for installation later this year and early next year, including: Northwest Mississippi Association of Realtors, in Nesbit, Miss.; Ocala/Marion Co Association of Realtors in Ocala, Fla.; Billings Association of Realtors in Billings, Mont.; Peoria Area Association of Realtors in Peoria, Ill.; Palm Beach Board of Realtors in Palm Beach, Fla.; and Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors.

A total of 29 MLSs serving about 150,000 users now use the SafeMLS system, according to Clareity.
