North Carolina retail plaza sold
'Strong demand' characterizes market
By Inman News, Thursday, November 30, 2006.Cushman & Wakefield brokered the sale of Akers Shopping Center in Gastonia, N.C., for an undisclosed price.
New York-based DLC Management Corp. purchased the 240,957-square-foot property from Kimco Realty Corp.
Constructed in 1977 and renovated in 1990, the shopping center was anchored by a 62,900-square-foot Hobby Lobby, a 45,000-square-foot Toys "R" Us and a 28,355-square-foot Steve & Barry's -- plus a "shadow" anchored Target -- at the time of sale.
"The sale of Akers Shopping Center affirms Gastonia's continued growth on the western side of Charlotte and the continued strong demand for multi-anchored retail in North Carolina," said Kris J. Cooper, a senior director and team leader at Cushman & Wakefield.
