San Francisco Bug franchise rebrands
New firm will keep Beetle fleet
By Inman News, Tuesday, January 5, 2010.A former Bug Realty franchise in San Francisco has rebranded as [dot] Real Estate. Kirk Gregor, broker-principal, and Chris Siow, owner, decided to break free of the franchise two months ago to be out on their own. They chose their new name, [dot], a code in programming language, to highlight their emphasis on technology.
The brokerage company is keeping its iconic Volkswagen Beetles (Bug Realty's Beetles feature a ladybug motif: see article), but they now carry the new company's logo. [Dot] has also added two Mini Coopers to its fleet, for a total of seven cars.
The rebranded brokerage has plans to open a second office in Oakland, Calif., this month. Also, [dot] has added commercial real estate services. The company's Web site offers property-search tools, driving directions to multiple properties, neighborhood demographic data and automated market analysis reports for properties.
Bug Realty, meanwhile, announced in a press release today that it is seeking "licensees or venture partners for key markets" across the country.

A little more (OK, *any*) insight on WHY they chose to rebrand would have been interesting to hear...
