2010: The Real Estate Rebuild

In early 2009, Inman News released "The 10 Points List," a set of proposed reforms for the real estate industry.

The list was honed through input from our readers in the "Roadmap to Recovery" editorial project, which served as a backbone for some focused news coverage over the past year, ranging from unconventional forms of industry compensation to the rise of mobile technologies and other innovations that are deconstructing brick-and-mortar barriers.

In 2010, Inman News is planning a series of in-depth editorial projects that highlight hot-button industry topics, from the so-called "shadow inventory" of bank-owned properties to an examination of the history and evolution of the multiple listing service system.

Our coverage plan is intended to help our audience gain a foothold in the market's recovery and play an active role in the real estate rebuild: a sustainable real estate market that provides ample opportunities for homeownership but is neither the lone engine nor a ball and chain for the economy as a whole.

This month, Inman News will present "Real Estate Survivor," an editorial project that will feature agent and broker success stories and survival strategies amid economic upheaval and uncertainty.

Also this month, watch for Inman's "2020 Re-Envision: The Future of Real Estate Brokerage" survey and related coverage. Some questions that we will address: Where will the real estate brokerage industry be in 10 years? Will the role of real estate brokers change? What will be different about the services and technology that brokers offer? Will the industry landscape be unrecognizable from its current state?
